Historical information
This book was borrowed from the Emerald Mechanic's Institute in 1961 but never returned. The first Emerald Mechanic's Institute (also known as the Emerald Hall) was built in 1905 but was burnt down in 1955. A new Emerald Hall was opened on the site on 16 November 1957 and remained in operation until its demolition in 2018 to make way for the building of the Emerald Hub.
Significance
This book recalls the history of the library service at the Emerald Mechanic's Institute. The Institute was an important centre of Emerald social life from its inception in 1905.
