This compilation includes three separate volumes of advice for the everyday home. According to R. C. Barnum the compiler, each section was created from contributions of the ordinary people throughout the world.
The Dedication page declares - The People's Home Library being a set of books By the People and for the People is most respectfully dedicated to the People. May it serve them well in their hour of need"
