The following members of this tent volunteered for active service in response to the Empires call. The Great European War 1914-1918.
G.W.Milne - Died of wounds 30-4-1918. G.H.Allen - Killed in action 25-10-1917. E.R.Poyner - killed in action 16-8-1916. W.E,Wilson, F.H.Poyner, M.Tait, H. Hutchinson, W.T.Hodges, Louis Henry, O.B.Wilson, J.H.Hunt, L.Hopkins, J.Mcneil, and W.H.Verdon. Independent Order of Rechabites, Lilydale Tent No. 97.
This Roll of Honour commemorates members of the Independant Order of Rechabites, Lilydale Tent No 97 who volunteered for active service in World War 1. It features the names of several prominent Lilydale residents, including brothers Privates Edwin and Frank Poyner. The brothers served with the 6th Australian Infantry Battalion.
On August 16th. 1916 they were side by side in a dug out at Pozieres when they were buried by shell fire. Frank survived the attack, but Edwin was killed instantly.
