Textile - Wool Work Sailing Ship, John Burns

Historical information

Wool work picture worked by donor's grandfather John Henry Burns. These embroideries are known as "woolies". John was born in 1876 in Rosebud, Victoria. John had a club foot so was unable to follow the family seafaring tradition. John enjoyed painting and needlework.

Physical description

Sailing ship in full sail, worked in wool embroidery in a heavy wooden frame. Cream, black and pink ship' dark blue, light blue and cream sea on a blue/cream matted wool background.
