Historical information
Made by the mother of the donor during the Edwardian period while living on a grazing property in far Western Victoria. Travelling was then very difficult as the roads were bad and so was not lightly undertaken. Embroidery of a romantic type was done as a reminder of life at home in England, so filling in the days when visits were relatively rare.
Physical description
A rich pale green satin, embroidered in a design of sprays of lilac, roses and leaves at both ends, mainly using varying widths of narrow ribbons in lavender, pink and green with a surrounding garland of shaded leaves and rosebuds in satin stitch, couched and highlighted with Japanese gold thread.
