Accessory - Early Victorian Silk Ribbon Reticule, c. 1840

Historical information

Bag was obtained by the donor in Maxwelltown, Dumfries, Scotland in 1930. Made around 1840. See Dictionary of Needlework page 67.

Physical description

Dark grey/blue silk. Floral design using fine ribbons, both sides. Fringed edge. Drawstrings are finished with flat bows and top of bag is shaped in 3 deep scallops. Bright yellow lining.
