A pair was made by a distant relative of the donor's from County Durham during a voyage lasting six months to settle in Victoria in 1840 and apparently were in long use in Australia by the family.

Physical description

White cotton quilt of two layers of cotton material interlined with a fine wool layer and then quilted in strips of varying widths in running stitch the whole length of the quilt.
There are a total of five strips of quilting, a broad central one, 900 mm wide and two narrower ones on each side, approx. 350 mm and 250 mm in classical North Co9untry geometric designs.
