Headwear - Victorian Ladies Bonnet, 1882

Historical information

Made for, and worn by Sarah Gibb, Birchip, Victoria in 1882, on a picnic arranged to celebrate the arrival in Victoria of the two Princes Albert and George, Dukes of Clarence and York. They were serving in the Royal Navy, on the ship Baccaute. Sarah would have been about 18 years old, and lived to 99. Prince George became King George V.

Physical description

White cotton trimmed with four frills of pin tucks and lace. Two frills are missing. There is a 16 cm. neck frill, and wide ties.
