Textile - Sampler, Eileen Hall, 1964

Eileen Hall stitched this sampler in a class given by Winifred Clayton, who was the first teacher to come to the Guild from England.
Threads saving technique employed, apparently a Danish king decreed that due to scarcity of thread that embroidery should be worked this way.

Physical description

Sampler shows a variety of stitches, satin, chain, stem, couching, etc., using a technique to save thread. Colours are pinks, light and dark, greens and yellows. A double sided mounting allows the back of work to be seen. This sampler was stitched to save thread. Threads have not been carried across the back of the work.
