Attached letter:
"This was originally a screen used to screen the faces of 18th century ladies from being scorched by drawing room fires. It belonged to the parents of R.W. Patterson the husband of Matilda, nee Upton. (I M H Upton sister to M S M Sleep nee Upton). R W Patterson's sister Hilda gave it the beaded part, to Aunt Mattie who didn't know what to do with it and gave it to to my mother M S M Sleep. She had it mounted on grey grosgrain fabric and it was hung on the fire screen which was later altered again to take the rose tapestry as a present. I had the beaded part mounted to hang in Susan Geissmann's (nee Arnold, my daughter) bedroom at Syndal about 1964. The firescreen was made by Myer's, Melbourne about 1935. "
