Possibly embroidered 1852. Old attached note states
" was done by my Father when he was a boy. His mother was a sewing teacher and he did what he seen the girls do, till he was at school"
Apparently there was also canvas work he did which was then over 100 years old, at time of writing.
Possibly the brother to Jessie Smith, sampler E 1862.

Physical description

Sampler with cross stitch, four-sided and eyelet stitches by William Smith, 7 years old. Beige coarse linen, dull and dark colours, red, blue, greens, browns. Framed, glass on green board and green mount.
