Transferred from Tretiakov Gallery by textile conservator Svetlana Korolkova. made in Ural (Chelyabinsk) in 19th C for church purposes. This type of shroud is specific for the period before the 18th C.
Physical description
Deep purple fragment, heavily embroidered in goldwork, flowers and large stars. Metal threads and tiny gold sequins. Russian newspaper, very torn, on the back of the fragment.
