Historical information
The photograph shows the main entrance to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School, which is attached to the church, in Sunbury. It was opened by Mr. H.F. Dodson 31st January 1881 although prior to this date, classes had been held in the church from 1877. In January, 1916 two more classrooms were added with further additions again in 1925. The nuns from the Order of St. Joseph were teachers at the school.
Significance
Sunbury children have been attending this school in the original building for 134 years.
