Historical information

The white painted cast iron gates are at the front entrance to St. Andrews Uniting Church and front onto the former Stawell Street in Sunbury. They were originally manufactured at the H.V.McKay Harvester Works in Sunshine. Over the years the gates fell into disrepair and were eventually restored and reinstalled at the original site.

Significance

The church gates are of historical importance in Sunbury as a result of H.V.McKay's connection with the former Presbyterian Church. He is buried in the Sunbury Cemetery and also lived at Rupertswood from 1923 until his death in 1926.
