Historical information
Built in 1940, a suspension bridge opened between San Remo, Victoria on the mainland to Newhaven, Victoria on Phillip Island. It was demolished in early 1970 following the opening of the new concrete bridge in November 1969. The demolition of the old, narrow bridge caused significant local disruption, including poor fishing conditions for at least two seasons.
