The Independent Order of Rechabites Salford Unity was a total abstinence focused fraternal benefits society founded in Salford, England on 25/8/1835. The Junior Tent was a youth branch aimed at educating young people in the benefits of a sober lifestyle and associated social activities. The society provided financial and medical insurance before government welfare was established. Members paid dues to access sickness pay, funeral benefits, and eventually medical/hospital coverage during hard times.

Colourfully illustrated Certificate of Merit from the Independent Order of Rechabites, presented to Bro. S. Porter by Williamstown Junior Tent No. 115 on 20/1/1911. There is an accompanying black and white photograph of Bro. S. Porter, Junior Superintendent.
