Historical information
John Porter (1843-1925) arrived in Australia in 1864 and taught in many church schools in Victoria and was very involved in the Methodist Church, he purchased "Fernbank" in Lal Lal Street and became secretary to the new Buninyong Butter Factor upon his retirement.
Significance
John Porter played an integral role in local community establishments including local church schools, the Buninyong Methodist Church, the Buninyong Butter Factory and he and his family lived at "Fernbank" for many years.
