Bendigo Advertiser article, 3rd June,1995, titled 'CNR caps mine threat'. The Department of Natural Resources is 'undertaking a crucial public safety campaign on Crown Land' ...throughout the central goldfields. Shafts capped ' between 1900 and 1920 are now collapsing because of deterioration of wooden beams placed to support the caps'. Colour photo shows Peter Bentley, standing alongside mine safety rails on a mine shaft in the Chewton area.
