Historical information

Early openers were often a single tool for both purposes, a double-ended design that punctured cans with a triangle hole and opened bottles, with modern versions like pull tabs appearing later. Some had only a blade for the can opener.

A dual metal can and bottle opener with a decorative line on the turned wooden handle. Rivets join the metal can and bottle opening sections.
