Historical information

The subject of this portrait, Gus Ryberg (1911 - 2000), was a tireless promoter of local history and was pivotal in the establishment of the Nobelius Heritage Park and of the Emerald Museum. He was a prominent member of other community organisations including the Emerald Fire Brigade, the Emerald Arts Society and the Macclesfield Cemetery Trust. He received an Order of Australia medal for services to the local community in 1996. The artist, John Dudley, who donated this portrait to the Museum, was the President of the Emerald Arts Society. The painting was completed in 1991.
