This machine was owned by Carmel & Fred Cullen (orchardists, Butt Rd Numurkah). Saved from the rubbish tip in the early 2000s
The Free Sewing Machine Company, founded in 1870, was the predecessor of the Royal Sewing Machine Company, which was renamed in 1897. The company was known for its mail-order sales and department store distribution, and it produced machines for sale by mail-order companies and department stores. The Free sewing machine company merged with the New Home Sewing Machine Company in 1927 and later with National in the early 1950s. The company was bought out by the Japanese in 1954.

Physical description

Black treadle sewing machine (the upper part of a treadle machine only) with silver/white writing & emblems on the body. Is rusted in some parts. Is placed on a wooden base
