Physical description

Wooden gavel with wooden presentation stand. The gavel and stand are made of different types of wood - the gavel is light brown, whilst the base is a darker brown. Gavel head is cylindrical, with four raised rings along the barrel of the gavel head. There are rings either side of the handle, and a ring on each end of the gavel head adjacent to the face. There are grooves in the gavel head between the two rings on either side.

Top section of base carries a brass plaque engraved with the AFOG logo. The logo is represented in blue and green. Bottom section of base carries a large rectangular brass plaque engraved with the text 'THIS GAVEL IS PRESENTED TO THE/ROYAL COLLEGE of OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS/AUSTRALIAN COUNCIL/BY: T.H.LEAN/1971/President 1968-1971/Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology'. Two pieces of wood with semicircular cutouts at centre are attached to the middle of the base to hold the gavel as a stand.
