Historical information
The Pulp Mill Womens Awareness Group (PMWAG) began in 1989 in response to a proposal for a Pulp Mill in the Orbost District, East Gippsland, Victoria. After several years, with the Pulp Mill issue dying down, in 1993, the group decided to change its name to Orbost Womens Awareness Group (OWAG) and continued until finally disbanding in 2015. The group brought awareness to many community issues and proposals, as well as having a strong social aspect.
Significance
This small archive is a representation of a significant women's group which existed in Orbost from 1989 - 2015.
