The image of a mining poppet head has been used in conjunction with the City of Bendigo and later the City of Greater Bendigo since the 1980's. Poppet heads were once ubiquitous throughout the district and represent the city's mining history.
The Poppet Head Lookout in Rosalind Park serves as a public lookout and the steel structure originally served as the poppet head (headframe used to transport workers, equipment, and ore) for the rich Garden Gully United Mine from 1857 to 1921 and was relocated in 1931.
Physical description
Circular brass plaque with die cut image of poppet head and 'Bendigo City' written below. Reverse has two screw hole fittings for attaching to a building or wall.
