This overmantel is an example of Ballarat furniture making in the city's industrial heyday. It remains where it was installed 126 years ago and is rarely found as originally placed, and is an example of a type no longer practicable or fashionable.
Significance
Manufactured by Sussman & Cornblum of Ballarat this Edwardian over-mantel graces the Dining-room of Hymettus cottage. It has a stencilled label to the back and was installed in 1901 and remains in situ.
