Textile - Box of nylon stockings mending thread

Historical information

Nylon stockings replaced stockings made of cotton or silk during the 1940s, but were still expensive and were mended rather than discarded when they were damaged. The mending threads show popular colours during the 1940s and 50s.

Vintage stocking mending thread. Lidded cardboard box containing 92 cards of five different coloured nylon mending thread for stockings.

Inscriptions & markings

On box: "Nylon Mending /A Flosso Production/ Made in England".
On inside lid : "Flosso Nylon Mending/5 latest shades/Made in England"
On inside lid, in pencil: "5d each"
