A red cloth covered Arithmetic book for Grade V. The title, editor and publisher details are printed in black lettering and enclosed by a border of thin black lines around the edges of the front cover. 8d. is printed in the bottom front right hand corner. There is a small black lined symbol in the middle. The title page has full publishing details, with a single student's arithmetical workings in black ink. Written in ink and grey pencil is the name of the student. Inside the back cover are many workings out of sums and an outline of a steam train. Inside there is a list of the Federal Arithmetic books in the series, a Prefatory Note, explanations and samples of processes with 60 Exercises. There are included, tables, sample workings out, oral exercises. At the back are advertisements for The Austral Grammars, The Southern Cross Public Schools Atlas, The Federal Geographies, Stories of Australian Explorers and Southern Cross Word and Sentence Building. 'Louis Kolling Wandin North.' is written in black ink in copperplate lettering three times on the title page in black ink and grey pencil. It is also written on p. 57. Many arithmetical workings are written on the inside of the back cover in black ink as well as an outline of steam train.
