"Edward Andrew HEPBURN No. 793.(born Newport, enlisted Melbourne) on 28.2.1916 in D Coy 31st Bn age 24 years 6 months with the rank of Sgt, embark for Eygpt 9.11.1915, hospital 20.1.1916 with Appendicitus, transfers to 4th Pioneer Bn 16.4.1916, embark for France16.6.1916, WIA 21.7.1916 SW L Side, promoted 2nd Lieutenant 13.8.1917, promoted Lieutenant 13.11.1917, rejoin Unit 24.11.1917, appointed Gas Officer 9.3.1918 in 8th Brigade HQ then 5th Div HQ, RTA 18.7.1919 discharged 28.10.1919. He was awarded a Mention in Despatches.

1. to 5. Series of five envelopes with letters from; 1. "Your loving nephew Will". 2. to 5. "Yours Ed" to 1. "Dear Auntie Meg", 2. to 5. "Dear Auntie Mag". All addressed to Mrs A.W. Stone/ Stonelea/ Woodstock West/ Via Maldon/ Victoria/ Australia".
The envelopes are a mixture of e.g. AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCES and Standard with postmark ink stamps. The letters are beige ruled paper, some with letterhead e...g. N.A.C.B.. Handwritten correspondence - envelopes blue or black ink pen. Letters blue or black ink pen.
