Decorative object - Temari Ball

Originally made from herbs and leather, noble women developed theirs from silk and kimono scraps. A symbol that represents great loyalty or a valued friendship. Modern day Japan - mothers make them for their children as part of New Year celebrations.

Physical description

Temari ball - the mari are divided into sections with temporary pins then wrapped with silk thread, creating geometric designs. Grey base with olive green central band and pinks, bronze, cream and metallic threads.
