Magazine, The Australian Women's Weekly, 1947

Historical information

The Australian Women's Weekly, founded in 1933, has been Australia's top selling magazine for most of the time since its inception. This issue had as its feature article the wedding between the then Princess Elizabeth (later Elizabeth II) and Lieutenant Mountbatten (later Prince Phillip). The magazine and other newspaper cuttings which have been inserted inside all reflect the level of interest in this royal wedding for everyday Australians - including the donor's mother who was a long-term resident of Emerald.
