Built prior to 1852 as a surgery and residence for John Wilkins, Port Health Officer and Surgeon.
Used continuously as a surgery until 1976 (with the exception of 1858-61 when it became the Clarendon Hotel). In 1857 John Price (Inspector-General of Penal Establishments) died here after being attacked by convicts.
