Historical information
The first tennis courts to be built in Tawonga were at the primary school. The courts opposite the store were built in the mid 1930s on land donated by John Cooper. They were initially dirt courts and were concreted in the early 1940s.Tennis Club belonged to the Dederang and District Tennis Association in 1969-1970. Tennis was a popular sport for all ages, men and women, girls and boys.
Significance
The trophy and flag were presented to the winners of the Tawonga Tennis Club who won their grade in the Dederang and District Tennis Association competition. These were then put on display in the club rooms indicating that the teams were winners and tennis a popular sport in the district.
The books give an insight into meeting procedures and items of interest eg. court maintenance, numbers of members and ability of players (graded and number of teams). also names of local families involved.
