This ledger is a record from Sambell's Pharmacy which operated from various premises in Fairy St Warrnambool He commenced working when he purchaesed the business of Kennedy and Co in Timor St Warrnambool He then moved to the corner of Koroit and Fairy Sts where he went into partnership with his son and grand daughter. The ledger which covers the period of 1883-1980 has an alphabetical index at the front and contains nearly one thousand handwritten prescriptions. It was donated by a later pharmacist Chris Houlihan who operated in Warrnambool in the 1960-1970's. The book contains a blotter for Plaza dental soap.

Significance

This ledger has much local significance as the Sambell chemist shop was a well known business over many years in Warrnambool. It also contains a large number of local names and is a valuable source of what medicines were being prescribed in the period.
