This b/w photograph/postcard is of a steam train at the Orbost Railway Station, March 1930. Steam trains operated on this line from 1916 - c. late 1950s.
The construction and opening of the Orbost railway in 1916 was a major event in the development of Orbost and East Gippsland, resulting in huge development of farming and timber industries. This railway functioned between 1916 until 1987.

Significance

This photograph/postcard is significant because it relates to the Bairnsdale-Orbost railway line.
