Historical information
This photograph was taken in 1967 in Sylvia Street, Orbost, at the time of the beginning of the Orbost & District Historical Society & establishment of a Museum in a building owned by Orbost Shire Council. This building was located in Nicholson Street, adjacent to the Reserve (now cricket oval). This was an important event of the era, and led to the collection and preservation of stories and objects associated with the establishment of Orbost and District. Attending the opening was local MP, Peter Nixon and his wife Sally. Peter was a Federal member of parliament for many years and a keen supporter of the Hist. Society. In the carriage is Kaye Lynn.

This photo is significant because it records a part of the ceremonies associated with the beginning of the Orbost & District Historical Society.
