This photograph represents a gigantic forest tree which is in the process of being cut down. There is no certainty that this tree was located in the Orbost region. However, it does represent the forest practices of previous time.
Significance
Because the location of the tree is not known, this photograph has only a general significance to the Orbost & District Historical Society's collection.

A b/w photo/postcard of five men standing around the butt of a gigantic tree. A mark around the tree looks like an axe or saw mark. The tree is in a dense bushland setting.
