Designed in the USA. Founded in 1890 merged with Massey Harris in the 1930s. Manufactured and improved in Australia by H.V. McKay. Manufactured in Sunshine Victoria.
Towed by horse. It replaced hand scythes to cut grass, barley, oats, lucerne and green feed to be stored as winter stock feed.

Significance

This hay mower was used by farmers in the Kiewa Valley for harvesting their crops.

Physical description

A long, large towable agricultural Hay Mower.Iron frame, cast iron wheels, raised lugs on outside surface. Metal seat positioned at the back for the operator.Steel cutting blade, 2 hand operated levers to the right of the seat.
