Goddard's non-mercurial plate powder was introduced by Joseph Goddard (Leicester, England) in 1839, as a silver polish which would safely remove tarnish. Goddard's is still an active brand, still making polishes for metals.
Physical description
Small oblong lidded box (empty) which contained non-mercurial plate powder manufactured by J. Goddard & Sons, Leicester, England. The box has a yellow coloured background, the manufacturer's details and trade mark, and directions for use. The powder was used in silver polishing.
