Domestic object - Enamel laundry soap dish

Historical information

Soap was used in laundries before the advent of detergents, and was often grated to be added to 'coppers' to be boiled. It was also used for the hand washing of clothes.

Physical description

White enamel soap dish with a blue rim around the base of the bowl - an enamel insert with a large hole holds the soap and drains water into the dish.
