Summary

The Orations of Marcus Tullius Cicero, Vol. 4 contains some of the most dramatic political speeches in ancient history. Specifically, this volume includes The Philippics, a series of 14 fierce orations delivered by Cicero against Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony) in 44–43 BC, following the assassination of Julius Caesar. Cicero was desperately trying to rally the Roman Senate to defend the failing Republic against Antony’s rise to dictatorial power.
Appended to the back of the volume are Cicero’s works on the art of speaking and argument, including The Treatise on Rhetorical Invention, The Orator, Topics, and On Rhetorical Partitions.
