Summary

Volume 2 of the 1852 Henry G. Bohn edition is arguably the most famous and politically explosive volume in the entire four-part series. While Volume 3 handles his personal survival and Volume 4 addresses his final stand against Mark Antony, Volume 2 captures Cicero at the absolute absolute peak of his political power. This volume contains the speeches from his consulship (the highest office in Rome) in 63 BC, where he single handedly uncovered and dismantled a bloody coup designed to burn down the city of Rome. This volume allows the reader to see Cicero when he was the undisputed "Father of the Fatherland" (Pater Patriae), in this is the volume. It showcases him navigating political bribery, fighting for the cultural value of the arts, and ultimately crushing a domestic terrorist plot against the Roman state.
