Historical information
It is unclear who the Jack Moore in this photograph was or where it came from. There was a Jack Moore who was a hotel proprietor in Kangaroo Ground from 1910, but this is also a very common name so realistically it could have been anyone. It was most likely taken in the early 20th century, judging by the sepia colour but clear photography.
Significance
This photograph depicts Monbulk in the late 19th or early 20th century, showing ways of life, travel, and accommodation at the time.
Physical description
This item is a sepia photograph with particularly heavy red tinting, printed on white card paper. The reverse has a small handwritten annotation and accession number, both in pencil. It depicts ten men with several animals including horses and dogs. To the right of the frame, six of the men sit in front of a triangular hut structure of wood and corrugated metal. To the left, the other four are near the road, which continues up a hill in the background. The background also contains several trees and a wood-and-wire fence.
