Summary:Heathmont College VCE students spent a week door‑knocking around Maroondah for Red Cross Calling, collecting donations between March 16–24. They received Community Services certificates at assembly, and their efforts put the school in the running for the perpetual Red Cross shield, awarded to the school that raises the most money. Photographs of students in the Senior Lounge, undertaking VCE Chemistry, outside in the campus grounds, learning about the pathway to a career in hospitality, using computers. Summary: Heathmont College secured $1 million in government funding to build a new advanced technology wing as part of the Schools of the Future program. Local MP Gordon Ashley announced the grant, saying it would benefit students across several eastern suburbs. The new centre—focused on electronics, computing, and fabrication in metals, plastics, and wood—will be located at the junior campus and support students pursuing VCE technology studies. Principal Glenn Fankhauser welcomed the investment, calling it a major boost for education in the outer east (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026)
Summary: Joel Hulme, a student at Heathmont College, placed in the top one percent internationally in the Australian Mathematics Competition, scoring an impressive 99 percent. He received $30 and a Westpac bank account as part of his award. Maths co‑ordinator Jim Ymer praised the result as one of the best the college has recorded. More than 70 students from Years 7–12 took part, and Joel hopes to pursue a future in maths or science. (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026). Includes photo of Joel.
Summary:Heathmont Secondary College’s judo team earned 10 medals at the Victorian Secondary Schools Sports Association competition held at Monash University. Fourteen students competed, winning four gold, four silver, and two bronze. The school praised their determination and sportsmanship, and noted that judo is offered as a Year 10 elective. Summary:Sally MacAdams and Claire Adams from Heathmont Secondary College achieved high distinctions in the Australian Schools English Competition, placing them in the top one percent of English students in the state. The competition tests reading, comprehension, data interpretation and vocabulary, and draws entrants from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026). Summary:Heathmont College became the first school in Victoria to offer a retail sales management course for Year 11 students. The new program, created with Swinburne University of Technology and Myer Grace Bros., lets students complete both VCE and TAFE modules at the same time. About 22 students will take part, including a six‑week training block at Myer and work toward an advanced certificate in retail sales management. The college already runs similar dual‑recognition programs in hospitality, automotive studies, electronics, engineering and office administration.. (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026).
Summary:The FOCUS pilot program, run jointly by Maroondah Council and Heathmont College, proved highly successful in supporting Year 10 students whose needs weren’t being met in mainstream classes. The program combined academic learning, vocational training, and personal development: three days a week on literacy and numeracy, one day of work experience with local businesses, and one day building confidence, communication, health and self‑management skills. Of the 17 students enrolled, 15 completed the year, with several moving into further study or employment. Heathmont College presented a plaque to council manager Edith Farrell, who praised the initiative as an important alternative for students at risk of leaving school early. (Co-Pilot 27/6/2026).
