John William Denison VINEY (Service no: W/925), was born in Williamstown on 14 October 1915 and enlisted in the RAN on 24 November 1939.
He served as a Gunner on the MV Sussex, SS Port Nicholson, SS Brisbane Star and SS Nankin. On the 10 May 1942 the SS Nankin, was attacked by the German Raider "Thor" in the Indian Ocean and John Viney was captured and became a Prisoner of War (POW) in Mo. 1 Camp, Tokyo Area, Japan.
