Historical information

The company Philips Australia originated in 1926, and began manufacturing radios in the 1930s. It began mass production in its Hendon, South Australian plant in 1946. It produced valve radios, transistor models, and early television sets.

Physical description

Philips brand Australian made vintage valve radio model 123 circa 1950 - 1952. Dark brown mottled bakelite case with primrose coloured grille and control knobs: volume, on/off, tone and tuning are in white bakelite with grey insets. Philips emblems are in the centre of the control knobs and on the right side the radio station numbers are displayed. Stations for each state are displayed on clear perspex: SA-5, QLD-4, VIC-3, NSW-2, 6-WA, 7-TAS. Speaker grille cloth above stations display, circuit diagram sticker on rear of cabinet.
