Physical description
Able Seaman William Frank Deacon (Service no: W/70), was born in Essendon 13 March 1909 and enlisted in the RAN on 15 April 1940. He served on the HMAS Sydney and was Killed in Action, Indian Ocean, 20 November 1941, aged 32 years.
On 19 November 1941, HMAS Sydney was steaming back to Fremantle, having escorted a troopship part of the way to Singapore when it was attacked by German raider, "Kormoran" and sank. By midnight HMAS Sydney was lost with all 645 hands, including Able Seaman Deacon.
