As part of the Alfred Hospital's Centenary celbrations, this oration was given on Tuesday 4th May 1971. The oration 'A plea for our teaching hospitals' was delivered by Professor Maurice R Ewing. Other members of the official party were Sir Rohan Delecombe [ governor of Victoria], who unveiled a memorial plaque, Mr Ian l McVey [Chairman, Honorary Medical Staff, Alfred Hospital] and Mr W S Philip [president, Alfred Hospital] In addition to the programme there is an article titled 'The First One Hundred Years' which gives some history of the Alfred Hospital
