Historical information

This photographic portrait is of Mr Carl Axel Nobelius, founder of the Gembrook Nurseries (aka Nobelius Nurseries). This nursery, founded in 1892 and located in Emerald is said to have grown to become the largest in the Southern Hemisphere by 1914.
This print is a copy of an original portrait by Alice Mills, a celebrated Melbourne photographer, which is held by the Museum.

Significance

This photograph of its founder recalls the early history of the Gembrook Nurseries.
