AJ Elmore had had built a house and set up a workshop by 1916. His houses were built in Arts and Crafts 'fresh air' style using local hardwood.

A recording of an oral history on the Elmore houses and the Elmore Sawmill in Blackburn / Laburnum in the 1950-60's. The history is provided by Andrew Scott in an interview with Giselda Bannister on 29 April 2026. Andrew lived next to the Elmore Sawmill in an Elmore built house.
