Scissors are essential sewing tools, delicate embroidery requires fine scissors. Taylors of Sheffield started using the Eye Witness trade mark c 1838. They became one of world leading cutlery and scissor makers and the name continues today. Stork shaped scissors were a popular design and said to come from the tradition of midwives' sewing as they waited for women to give birth.

Significance

Steel scissors made by a Sheffield company where Sheffield was the centre of English cutlery making and Taylors one of the most important firms. Exhibiting and winning awards for their scissors in the 1851 Great Exhibition.

Physical description

Stork shaped scissors with slim pointed beak forming blades which pivot on a rivet which 'forms' the eye. The legs form the shanks which attach to the oval thumb and finger holders. Body is textured like feathers, Beak is unplated steel
